Celebrating the life of
Katherine C. Chisholm
March 31, 1929 - February 01, 2016
Savannah, GA – Katherine Crutcher Chisholm died on February 1st, 2016 at her home in Vernonburg, surrounded by her family and devoted friends.
Katherine was born on March 31st, 1929, the daughter of Eleanor Henderson and Ralph Francis Crutcher. Katherine graduated from The Pape School and attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, VA, and graduated from the University of Georgia.
Upon her return to Savannah, Katherine worked for the Board of Education, and Savannah Bank & Trust. She met, and within three months married, the love of her life Frank Anderson Chisholm. They were devoted to each other for nearly 60 years.
Katherine was involved in many community activities. She was Past President of the Junior League of Savannah, the Savannah Home for Girls, the Candler Hospital Auxiliary, and the Board of Directresses of the Telfair Hospital. She was a 50-year member and Past President of the Trustee’s Garden Club. Deeply involved in historic preservation both locally and nationally, Katherine served on the board of Historic Savannah Foundation, the Massie Heritage Center, and as the Georgia Vice Regent of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association in Mount Vernon, VA. She was also a 50-year member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames, and a member of the board of the Louisa Porter Foundation.
Throughout her life she served Savannah Country Day School in a number of capacities including the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Annual Fund. Katherine was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where she taught Bible School, was a member of the Tuesday Morning Circle, and lovingly decorated the sanctuary for many years.
Katherine enjoyed tennis, bridge, travel and arranging flowers. She shared her husband’s passion for Camellias, proudly wearing his prize winning blooms to parties. She was happiest when on the dock with her family enjoying freshly caught crabs. Katherine was an inspired and gracious hostess. She loved to entertain and was known by friends and family for her beautiful and festive table settings. Katherine’s greatest talent was the gift she had for making others feel special.
Katherine is predeceased by her husband Frank A. Chisholm, and her sister Frances Crutcher Foster. She is survived by her children; Andy Chisholm (Alice), Dolly Chisholm Sadler (Graham), Lee Merrick (Bob), Diane Middleton (Cord), and Marjie Batcheller (Chuck); her grandchildren, Kip & Jane Eliza Chisholm, Kate & William Sadler, Laurin Armfield & John Merrick, Cordy, Cam & John Middleton, Kelly Scanlon & Andy Batcheller; thirteen great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, James G. Foster, Jr., a niece Eleanor Foster, and a nephew Jim Foster (Cathy).
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull Street, Savannah. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be sent to Savannah County Day School, 824 Stillwood Ave, 31419, or Independent Presbyterian Church, PO Box 9266, 31412.

Katherine was such a kind, welcoming friend to me when I moved here in 1959 with my first husband, Gene. She will always represent the very best of beautiful Savannah to me - and I'm sure to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her beauty - inside and out - just shown out! Jim Cox's mother was 98 when we moved to Savannah. Mrs. Lucy Pego told us of a classmate from her school days and that we should reach out to Mrs. Cheatham (Katherine's mother) ND Mrs. Chisholm. I recall entertaining them with Mrs. Cox within the first few months of Mrs. Cox's all too short time in Savannah. What. Delightful family. AOur condolences to Dolly and the whole family

Dolly, Andy, Lee, and family. As I read the obituary of your Mom, I noticed many similarities of our mothers. Interest in historic preservation, camellias, marrying men in the investment field, serving on the Board of Trustees at Country Day and activities in many other organizations. I know you will miss her but wow what a full life she led.

I am so sadden by this wonderful woman's passing. Warm, funny, and gracious--I was blessed to spend time with her family when I was a boy as Andy's good friend.
